16-year old Arben came to Germany alone from Albania – his parents stayed behind. He did not find it easy to find his way around here and dreamt about having a bicycle again. His social worker contacted us, and one of our volunteers took Ermal to our befriended cycle-workshop, where they both assembled a bike for him. Now Arben can not only join us at our bike-trips, but also discovered his talent for mechanics on the way.
Bejan is a 22-year old Kurdish girl that came to Germany to escape the war in Syria. After all she had experienced in the last years, she thought she might not ever recover her faith in people. Through the help and friendship of Thomas she discovered that this doesn’t have to be the case. Her mentor Thomas supported Bejan with not only learning German but with learning how to deal with the local authorities. He also helped her with finding a flat and over time introduced her to his own friends as well. They are both still in touch today.
Tomek moved from Poland to Germany with his parents, back when he was 12. Soon he found his way to our Young-Filmmakers Group. Thanks to his mentor, Michalina, Tomek not only learned how to use a professional camera and direct a set, but also got an internship at an actual TV-station. The Mentorship programme let him follow his dreams, build up his confidence and make many new friends. After four years he’s still participating in the project and just finished his own TV-series together with the other people from Michalina’s group.
